Retrofit Assessments
We will help find the best solution for your property. The assessment will determine whether the building is air-tight or not. It will also help you choose the right type of retrofit. It is best to hire an assessor who has a proven track record in retrofit.
We will provide you with an Energy Assessment Report, a Condition Report, and an Occupancy Assessment. We will provide you with a list of recommendations to improve your property with prospective cost savings and emissions reductions figures, as well as showing the new potential EPC rating.
Domestic & Non-Domestic Energy Assessment
An EPC is a document which shows the energy efficiency and carbon emissions of a property. The property is given a rating between A and G and this is displayed on a chart which looks very similar to the energy rating given to domestic appliances.
The EPC is provided as part of an energy report which highlights recommendations for increasing the energy efficiency of the property and reducing the carbon emissions and it includes an estimate of how much these changes may cost. We will provide advice on suitable measures that can be carried out to your property to improve the rating.
Building Condition Surveys
A building condition survey is an assessment of the physical condition of a building or group of buildings. It involves a thorough inspection of the building’s structure, systems, and components, such as the roof, walls, floors, electrical and mechanical systems, and any other relevant features. The report will raise any areas of concern, providing a defects report. Our building surveying team has a wealth of experience across the range of building surveying services, and we would be delighted to discuss any requirements you may currently have. We pride ourselves in offering a bespoke service that can be tailored to meet individual client’s requirements.

Thermography
Thermal imaging is used in many ways, including in building surveys to check the insulation (or lack of) in the building and show areas of heat loss – this helps you to ensure your property is as energy-efficient as possible. We can detect leaks, dampness using our very modern technology.
Thermal surveys can play an important part in finding the root cause of problems within a building. Not only can thermography do this quickly and efficiently, but it also won’t waste any time unnecessarily for everyone involved within the process either. Building thermography relies on a good contrast between internal and external temperatures to detect insulation defects. Most of our building surveys occur during the colder months or in the evenings following sunset.
Construction Faults
By using thermal imaging to identify construction faults, you can get these problems fixed before they result in potential harm to people or damage to the property. Using thermography means the process is faster, easier and more reliable, and that you don’t have to dig around to find issues.
Damp and Mildew
Thermal imaging is also a great option to pinpoint damp areas, so that you can find the source and rectify the issue with ease, without risk of missing any spots.
Air Leaks
You may not have considered thermal imaging to find air leaks, but this is one of the many uses of thermography. Air leaks can be difficult to spot, so consider these types of surveys in order to get a warmer, more insulated home.
This can lead to a decrease in your energy costs too, so identifying air leaks can actually save you money.
Leaks in Flat Roofs
Thermal imaging surveys are also useful to find leaks in flat roofing before the issue becomes worse. Instead of struggling to see where water could be coming from, since even the smallest crack or hole can make a difference, thermal surveys make the whole process a lot easier.
Building Renovations
If there are any parts of your property that you’re looking to improve, try thermal imaging to help you see the work ahead of you. Thermography can help identify problematic areas, ensuring you don’t waste time and money on unnecessary restorations.
Air Tightness Testing
Air tightness testing, often called air pressure or permeability testing, calculates the amount of uncontrolled air leakage through gaps and cracks within the fabric of your home or business property. Sidlaw perform air tightness tests throughout Scotland, the North of England and further afield.
We use calibrated Retrotec equipment to pressurise and/or de-pressurise a building and record air flow measurements. Our air tightness tests comply with the requirements of Section 6 of the Scottish Building Regulations Technical Handbook and Part L of the Building Regulations (England and Wales) for domestic and commercial buildings.
This can lead to a decrease in your energy costs too, so identifying air leaks can actually save you money.
